Richard (Nik) Nikolaev
Chairman

Nik Nikolaev has served in senior management positions with DePuy, including Executive Vice President from 1971-1984.

He served as the President of Protek, Inc. until it was acquired by Sulzer in 1989. After the Protek acquisition, Mr. Nikolaev became Chairman, President, and CEO of Orthomet until it was acquired by Wright Medical Technologies, where he assumed the role of President and CEO at Wright until retirement in 1997.

Mr. Nikolaev has served on the boards of a number of private and public companies and presently serves on the Board of Trustees of the Orthopaedic Research and Educational Foundation.

Randal Barrett is a founder and executive director of Pioneer Capital Partners, an expansion stage private equity investor.

Randal has been a founder, advisor, executive and director to a range of technology related businesses, financiers and governments in all major geographic markets.

Bill Birnie
Director

Bill Birnie is the Chairman and Managing Partner of NZ private equity firm, Birnie Capital Partners Limited.  He has extensive knowledge and experience in strategic planning, investment policy and investment banking.  Bill holds a Bachelor of Laws and is a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand.

Bill is a Trustee of the James Wallace Arts Trust, a Director of NZ Equestrian Sports and Deputy Chairman of the NZ Film Commission.  He is a former Chairman and Director of New Zealand’s largest fruit exporter, ENZA; and a former Commissioner of the Hillary Commission.  Bill was also a Founding Trustee of the Wellington Stadium Trust and was Deputy Chairman of the then government owned Post Office Bank, prior to its sale to the ANZ Banking Group.

George holds a Master of Science in bio-engineering from Clemson University and prior to co-founding Apex Surgical was Manager, Knee Research at Johnson & Johnson.

Previously George held the positions of Director, Product Development for Joint Medical Products Corporation, Director, Research Technologies for Baxter Health Care Corporation and Manager Technical Centre for Meadox Medicals.

George, along with two colleagues designed and released the APEX MODULAR™ hip stem, utilising their patented Dual Press™ fixation system, which enabled surgeons to achieve greater accuracy in ensuring correct leg length and offset in patients.

Mr. Norrie has had over 30 years experience in investment banking and private equity, during which time he has served on a number of boards including ENZA Ltd, New Zealand’s largest pipfruit exporter, Tabua Investments Ltd (Chairman), the developer of Denarau Resort in Fiji, and New Zealand investment bank, Fay, Richwhite & Co Ltd.  He was a director of OMNI life science from 2005 – 2008 and was Orthopaedic Synergy, Inc’s. inaugural CFO from December 2008 until March 2010.

Mr. Norrie's investment banking career has included leading New Zealand’s first mortgage securitisation and working with Booze Allen Hamilton, JP Morgan and Ernst Young to compile an operational review of the Bank of New Zealand for the Minister of Finance following the recapitalisation of the Bank by the Crown.
